Collins, <em>Bahasa Sanskerta dan Bahasa Melayu<\/em>, 2009<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Oleh : Dr. Mohammad Alinor bin Abdul Kadir<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>1. Pengenalan<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Tatkala saya dihubungi oleh Sdra Mohammad  Ali dari APM, UM, pada lebih kurang jam 11pagi, 19\/1\/2010, saya sebenarnya sedang memantau kuliah STPD2023 : Etika dalam Kegiatan Sains dan Teknologi yang diberikan oleh Prof.  Khalijah Mohd  Salleh. Sdra Mohammad  Ali mempelawa saya memberikan ulasan buku pada 26\/1\/2010 di APM, UM, terhadap buku yang saya pilih sendiri, \u201cdalam bidang sastera, dan sebaiknya terbitan 2009 atau lebih baik 2010\u201d katanya. Dikala itu tidak langsung saya terfikir mana-mana buku sastera yang saya baca akhir-akhir ini. Saya tak pernah baca buku sastera rasanya. Kalau adapun mungkin buku-buku falsafah sastera yang berbahas tentang bagaimana idea-idea Sartre dan Derrida diterapkan kedalam sastera. Dengan cepat saya menjawab \u201cbuku bahasa boleh?, buku Prof. Collins yang terbaru bertajuk Bahasa Sanskrit dan Bahasa Melayu?\u201d. Beliau setuju dan memohon tajuk buku dengan segera. Tajuk yang tidak berapa tepat ini saya sms-kan kepada beliau, dan saya perbetulkan tajuknya menerusi sms pada petangnya. Pada 19\/1\/2010 ini, saya sebenarnya telah tamat membaca buku tersebut seminggu dua sebelumnya, malah mengusulkan kepada seorang mahasiswa yang menjurus dalam Pengajian Bahasa Melayu, FSSK, UKM bernama Tarmizi Hasrah untuk melakukan ulasan. Beliau sempat menghantar mel-e kepada Prof. Collins dan balasannya dilampirkan kepada saya. Rupanya Prof.  Collins telah membaca makalah saya tentang transkripsi prasasti berbahasa Melayu-Cam yang diterbitkan dalam <a href=\"http:\/\/www.asasi.org.my\/\">www.asasi.my<\/a>. Beliau berhujah bahawa bahasa Cam bukanlah bahasa Melayu, tetapi keduanya tergolong dalam kumpulan Austronesia. Memanglah demikian, malah lebih jauh boleh dihujahkan bahawa perkataan \u201cMelayu\u201d sendiri bukanlah perkataan asli bahasa Melayu, tetapi berevolusi daripada perkataan Tamil \u201cMalai\u201d yang membawa maksud \u201cGunung\u201d. Kalau benar bahawa kebudayaan Tamil memanggil kita di sini sebagai \u201cMalai\/Melayu\u201d, maka perkataan yang mereka gelarkan kita itu sebenarnya merupakan terjemahan bagi perkataan kuno \u201cBanang\/Bnam\/Bunam\/ Funan\/Phnom\u201d ataupun \u201cSailendra\u201d yang semuanya bermaksud \u201cGunung\u201d. Juga, semanjak zaman Gautama Buddha sekitar 500SM, bahagian dunia sebelah sini dipanggil Suvarnabhumi. Dua sahabat Gautama Buddha datangnya dari kawasan ini. Malah ada yang kata ibu kepada Gautama Buddha berasal dari Suvarnabhumi. Isunya, apakah perkataan yang lebih asli berbanding perkataan \u201cMelayu\u201d bagi menggelar uran\/urang\/orang yang menduduki bahagian dunia sebelah sini? Melayu ini Urang  Banangkah?<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Kenapa saya dengan cepat memilih buku ini untuk diulas? Pertamanya, kerana saya sudah tamat membaca buku ini, malah menamatkan pembacaannya dalam masa sehari. Bagi mengulasnya, saya perlu mentelaahnya sekali lagi dengan teliti. Keduanya, kerana kandungan buku ini rapat kepada penyelidik-penyelidik sastera Melayu, yang juga selalunya berminat dengan isu-isu bahasa Melayu. Ini bertujuan untuk mendatangkan minat dikalangan hadirin untuk turut membaca buku yang sama. Ketiganya, yang paling utama, saya sememangnya melakukan penyelidikan dalam bidang yang dibahas oleh buku ini, iaitu kepustakaan ilmu Sanskrit di Asia Tenggara. Juga bertanggungjawab mendokumenkan sebanyak mungkin maklumat berkenaan kewujudan rumpun bahasa Melayu (atau Austronesia) di Asia Tenggara. Tapi, tujuan saya, dan kumpulan di INSPEM, UPM, dan ASASI, bukanlah hanya untuk mengkaji sejarah bahasa Melayu, tetapi adalah untuk mendapatkan sebanyak mungkin konsep-konsep ilmu yang asli Melayu untuk dibangunkan berbanding konsep-konsep ilmu semasa. Itulah sebabnya kajian-kajian berkenaan penyebaran kepustakaan ilmu Hindu-Buddha, Islam dan Eropah, merupakan satu daripada halatuju kami. Banyak daripada hujah-hujah yang saya nyatakan nanti datangnya daripada alasan yang ketiga ini.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>2. Sejarah Buku<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Saya merujuk kepada bahagian Prakata buku<span> <\/span>ini. Buku ini sebenarnya merupakan kembangan daripada makalah berjudul \u201cBahasa Sanskerta dan Bahasa Melayu\u201d yang disiapkan pada 17\/8\/2002 lalu dibentangkan dalam Seminar Keilmuan Sanskerta dan Peradaban Alam  Melayu, anjuran ATMA, UKM, pada 22\/8\/2002. Pada Prakata, ms. 12, Prof. Collins menyatakan bahawa wujudnya \u201ccatatan lusuh\u201d beliau yang digunakan sebagai dasar makalah ini, yang membawa maksud bahawa hasrat beliau untuk menulis tentang judul ini adalah jauh lebih awal daripada tahun 2002. Makalah ini kemudiannya dikembangkan sehingga berbentuk manuskrip dan dihantar kepada DBP untuk pertimbangan penerbitan pada tahun 2003. Manuskrip ini disimpan selama lebih kurang 5 tahun di DBP, dan akhirnya dinyatakan bahawa tidak akan diterbitkan di bawah DBP. Pada tahun 2008, Prof. Collins menghantar manuskrip yang sama kepada Dr. Daniel Perret dan Dr. Henri Chambert-Loir dari EFEO, Jakarta, untuk dinilai dan diterbitkan. Manuskrip tersebut diterima dengan beberapa tambahan yang saya boleh jangkakan sebagai diambil daripada beberapa penulisan selepas 2003 yang dinyatakan dalam rujukan seperti Asmah (2005), Collins (2004a, 2004b &amp; 2005), Errington (2008), Fischer (2005), Jones (2005), Kozok (2004 &amp; 2009), Molen (2007), Sai Kam Mong (2004) dan<span> <\/span>Suthiwan (2006). Mnauskrip ini diterbitkan oleh gabungan Kepustakaan Popular Gramedia (KPG), Pusat Pembinaan dan Pengembangan Bahasa (BPPB) dan Ecole francaise d\u2019Extreme Orient (EFEO) pada Februari 2009.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Nota : Saya tidak berhasrat untuk mengulas berkenaan Bab 1 : Pendahuluan, buku ini kerana Prof. Collins hanyalah merasionalkan sebuah terbitan akhbar oleh Derrick Vinesh bertajuk \u201cMalay Language is Fourth Most Commonly Used\u201d, The Star, ms. 8, 6\/8\/2002. Vinesh mendakwa bahawa bahasa Melayu merupakan bahasa yang keempat ramai penuturnya di dunia, selepas Tionghua, Inggeris dan Sepanyol, bersandarkan kajian yang dilakukan oleh sebuah institusi ilmu tempatan. Fakta tempatan ini bercanggah dengan kajian antarabangsa yang dilakukan oleh Ethnologue yang mendakwa bahawa bahasa Hindi berada pada tangga keempat, dan bahasa Melayu pada tangga kelima. Tapi, mungkin artikel Vinesh inilah yang mendorong Prof. Collins untuk menulis makalah awalnya yang disiapkan pada 17\/8\/2002 tersebut.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>3. Penjelajahan Intelektual Sarjana-Sarjana Tiongkok ke India dan Sebaliknya<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Pada Bab 2 : Tradisi Pengkajian, ms. 23-27, perbahasan Prof. Collins menyentuh berkenaan penjelajahan intelektual yang dilakukan oleh beberapa sarjana Tiongkok ke India. Tujuan penjelajahan ini adalah untuk menuntut ilmu yang lebih tinggi tentang agama Buddha dan mendapatkan seberapa banyak manuskrip Sanskrit untuk dibawa balik. Sarjana-sarjana Tiongkok yang dibincangkan adalah (Shih) Fa-Hien (perjalanan 399-414M), Hwui Seng dan Sung Yun (perjalanan 518-521M) dan I-Ching (perjalanan 671-695M). Tiga sarjana Tiongkok yang pertama itu tidak menggunakan jalan Asia Tenggara, tetapi menggunakan jalan Asia Tengah, untuk sampai ke India. Hanyalah I-Ching yang menggunakan jalan Asia Tenggara dan menetap agak lama di  Sriwijaya. Di Sriwijaya, I-Ching berguru dengan sarjana Melayu bernama Sakyakirti, pengarang buku <em>Hastadanda Sastra<\/em>, sebuah buku undang-undang. Selain  Sriwijaya, kata Prof. Collins, pusat pengajian agama Buddha juga terletak di Campa dan Jawa (juga Bali).<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Ada beberapa perkara yang saya ingin tambah disini. Pertamanya, Prof.  Collins<span> <\/span>tidak berusaha mendapatkan lebih banyak maklumat berkenaan penjelajahan intelektual sarjana-sarjana Tiongkok ke India ini. I-Ching sendiri pernah mengatakan bahawa sebelum beliau, terdapat lebih kurang 20 penjelajahan intelektual dilakukan oleh sarjana-sarjana Tiongkok ke India, termasuklah Fa-Hien, Hwui Seng dan Sung Yun. Saya pernah berusaha menjejaki sarjana-sarjana ini. Sebagai tambahan, mereka adalah Chu Si-hing (sekitar 290M), Fa-ling (sekitar 300M), Chi-I (?), Ho-yun (?) dan Hiuen  Tsiang (629-645M). Samuel Beal pada tahun 1884\/1983 di London menerjemahkan catatan perjalanan (Shih) Fa-Hien yang bertajuk Fo-kwo-ki, catatan perjalanan Hwui Sang dan Sung Yun, dan catatan perjalanan Hiuen Tsiang bertajuk Si-yu-ki. Prof. Collins ada merujuk buku Samuel  Beale pada tahun 1964 terbitan London yang menerjemahkan catatan perjalanan Fa-Hien dan Sung Yun, tetapi tidak mengandungi maklumat-maklumat ini agaknya.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Perkara yang kedua adalah tentang berat sebelahnya maklumat yang dinyatakan. Prof. Collins hanyalah menumpukan perbincangan kepada sarjana-sarjana Tiongkok yang datang ke India, tetapi hanyalah menyebut seorang sarjana India (atau India kecil, atau Sriwijaya) yang secara tak langsung terlibat, iaitu Sakyakirti. Berapakah jumlah sebenar sarjana-sarjana India yang diutus ke Tiongkok untuk bertugas mengembangkan agama Buddha di sana, tentunya selepas 56M, tarikh masuknya agama Buddha ke Tiongkok? Saya tidak mampu untuk menjawab soalan ini kerana terlalu besar cakupannya. Saya kecilkan soalan itu menjadi, berapakah jumlah sarjana India yang bertugas di Funan, Campa, Sriwijaya dan Jawa yang diutus ke Tiongkok untuk mengembangkan agama Buddha? Kecuali Funan, tiga kerajaan yang lainnya itu dinyatakan oleh Prof. Collins sebagai pusat kajian agama Buddha. Walaupun begitu, beliau tidak menunjukkan bukti-buktinya selain daripada hanyalah mengutip maklumat daripada sarjana-sarjana sebelumnya. Saya juga membaca berkenaan hal ini 5 tahun yang lepas daripada buku yang dikarang oleh Coedes berjudul terjemahan <em>The Indianized States of Southeast Asia <\/em>pada 1968. Apa yang saya lakukan terhadap maklumat tentang wujudnya kepustakaan ilmu seperti yang disebutkan? Saya berusaha menggelintar maklumat di  Tiongkok, Jepun, Tibet dan Korea berkenaan buku-buku yang dimaksudkan sebagai dibawa dari Funan, Campa, Sriwijaya dan Jawa ke tempat-tempat tersebut untuk diterjemahkan. Pencarian saya itu, walaupun kontroversi kerana dilakukan di Pusat Pengajian Sains Matematik, FST, UKM, yang penumpuan penyelidikannya lebih kering daripada teori-teori sintaksis generatif transformasi Noam Chomsky (diakui oleh Prof. Collins), namun saya berjaya mendapat maklumat tentang wujudnya kepustakaan ilmu yang dinyatakan oleh Coedes. Saya sampaikan maklumatnya di dalam Lampiran 1 dan 2. Malah, maklumat yang jauh lebih terkehadapan, iaitu kedapatannya berbagai buku yang dapat dikelaskan dalam bidang epistemologi, logik dan falsafah, yang mampu menerbitkan teori pengetahuan yang lain daripada yang dikembangkan oleh Barat sekarang. Contohnya adalah buku-buku karangan ahli-ahli falsafah India seperti Asanga, Vasubandhu dan Dignaga. Saya sengaja untuk tidak menyentuh manuskrip Jawa\/Kawi kerana maklumat berkenaannya diketahui umum. Saya juga sehingga kini masih gagal mengesan maklumat berkenaan sejumlah 1350 manuskrip Campa yang dilarikan oleh seorang jeneral Tiongkok pada tahun 605M. Ada maklumat yang mengatakan bahawa Hiuen  Tsang dipertanggungjawabkan kemudiannya untuk melakukan penerjemahan terhadap manuskrip-manuskrip ini. Saya belumlah boleh mengesahkannya. Prof.  Collins juga sempat menyatakan tentang usaha sarjana-sarjana Jepun seumpama Genbo mempelajari agama Buddha daripada manuskrip-manuskrip yang dibawa dari India ini. Saya juga mengetahui maklumat ini, malah maklumat berkenaan sarjana-sarjana Korea, Mongolia dan Tibet, yang mendapat manfaat sama seperti Genbo.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>4. Perkembangan Kajian Bahasa Sanskrit di Eropah<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Pada ms. 28-45, Prof. Collins membahaskan perkembangan kajian bahasa Sanskrit di Eropah, yang kerap kalinya juga dikaitkan dengan hubungan bahasa Sanskrit dengan bahasa Melayu. Beliau mengutarakan secara kritis kajian-kajian yang dilakukan oleh Jones, Marsden, Bopp, Favre, Dyen, Brandstetter, Gonda, Casparis dan lain-lainnya. Saya masih asing dengan kajian-kajian ini sebab tidak pernah mentelaah mana-mana daripadanya, kecualilah karya Gonda yang bertajuk <em>Sanskrit in Indonesia<\/em> itu dan beberapa makalah Casparis. Saya cumalah mahu menyentuh dua perkara di sini. Pertamanya, kutipan tak kritis Prof. Collins terhadap kenyataan Edward Said dalam <em>Orientalism<\/em> (1979) pada ms. 32 yang mengatakan bahawa kajian secara saintifik terhadap bahasa Sanskrit hanyalah berlaku selepas kerja-kerja yang diusahakan oleh Jones sekitar 1790M. Takkanlah kajian saintifik terhadap bahasa Sanskrit dilakukan oleh orang Inggeris? Tidak saintifikkah ahli-ahli bahasa Sanskrit di India, yang juga terkenal sebagai ahli-ahli falsafah yang terkemudia di dunia? Kenyataan Said tersebut sebenarnya amatlah tidak benar, sebab buku karangan Panini bertajuk <em>Astadhyayi<\/em> dan ulasannya bertajuk <em>Kashikavrtti<\/em> yang merupakan penjelasan saintifik tentang bahasa Sanskrit sudah sedia ada sekitar kurun ke-5M di India, malah dikesan berada di Campa, Sriwijaya dan Jawa sekitar kurun ke-10M. Prof. Collins kemudian mengesahkan pula fakta wujudnya kajian yang saintifik terhadap bahasa Sanskrit oleh Panini pada ms. 60-61. Malah, mengatakan bahawa wujudnya versi-versi karya Panini di   Jawa dengan istilah <em>Swarawyanjana<\/em>, <em>karakasamgraha<\/em> dan <em>krtabasa.<\/em> Namun, yang lebih menariknya, kenyataan Prof. Collins yang mengembangkan kenyataan Schoterman dan Zoetmulder pada ms 104-108 sebagai berkata bahawa bahasa Sanskrit yang dikembangkan di Jawa tidak mengikut tatabahasa Panini, dan variasinya dipanggil <em>Archipelago Sanskrit <\/em>atau bahasa Sanskrit Nusantara. Tapi, semua ini tidaklah bermaksud tiada kajian saintifik terhadap bahasa Sanskrit sebelum Jones di India, malah di Jawa. Perkara yang kedua dibahas dalam tajuk yang khusus di bawah.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong>5. Sistem Angka Melayu<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">Prof. Collins membincangkan daripada kajian James  Parsons 1767 pada ms. 31, Franz Bopp (1841) pada ms. 40-41, Dyen (1946) pada ms. 112-114 dan Asmah (1995) pada ms. 111, tentang sistem angka Melayu. Isu yang ditimbulkan adalah berkenaan kata masukkan pembilangan Sanskrit ke dalam pembilangan Melayu. Contohnya, dikatakan bahawa istilah <em>satu, dua, tiga, tujuh, delapan <\/em>dan<em> sembilan<\/em> bukanlah kata pembilangan asli Melayu. Selama ini kami beranggapan <em>tujuh, delapan <\/em>dan<em> sembilan<\/em> adalah kata pembilangan rumpun Melayu. Saya pernah beberapa kali meneliti subjek ini, tetapi belum pernah meneliti karya-karya sebelum Dyen itu. Namun, rasanya istilah <em>laksa <\/em>dan<em> juta<\/em> juga adalah ambilan daripada Sanskrit. Saya kongsikan maklumat yang pernah saya kumpul tentang kata pembilangan Melayu :<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">i. Prasasti Dong Yen Chau (Campa), sekitar kurun ke-3S\/4M : tujuh (7) dan saribu (1000).<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">ii. Prasasti Kedukan  Bukit (Sriwijaya), bertarikh 605S\/683M : duaratus (200), sariwu tluratus sapulu dua (1312) dan dualaksa (20, 000).<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">iii. Prasasti Telaga  Batu (Sriwijaya), jangkaan bertarikh 605S\/683M : sapuluh dua (12) dan dua laksa (20,000), lihat Casparis (1956).<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">iv. Prasasti Bukit  Seguntang (Sriwijaya), sekitar penghujung kurun ke-7M : dua (2).<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">v. Prasasti Nhan-Bieu (Campa), bertarikh 833S\/911M : dalapan (8), sapluh (10), tluv pluh (30), tluv pluh tijuh (37), nam pluh (60), tijuh pluh tluv (73), sa rtuh ban pluh dva (162) dan tluv rtuh sa pluh (310).<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">vi. Daftar Kata Bilangan Melayu Susunan Oe Tadafusa (Jepun), sekitar penghujung kurun yang ke-11M hingga tahun 1111M (tahun kematian Oe) : asaa (1), toa (2), rima (5), namu (6) dan sa-i-bira (9).<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\">vii. Prasasti Mi-son (Campa), bertarikh 1036S\/1114M : sa (1), kluv (3), tijuh (7), dalapan (8), salapan (9), sanraun (12), dva pluh dva (22), kluv pluh (30), pak pluh (40), pak pluh nam (46), pak pluh salapan (49), nam pluh dva (62), dalapan pluh dalapan (88), salapan pluh dalapan (98), sarutuh (100), sarutuh salapan pluh (190), kluv rutuh dva pluh (320), salapan rutuh dalapan (980) dan sa rivuv sa rutuh salapan (1109).<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\">viii. Prasasti Mi-son (Campa), bertarikh 1079S\/1157M : lima pluh (50), sa rutuh (100), sa rutuh lima pluh (150), kluv rutuh (300), kluv rutuh tijuh pluh (370) dan lima rutuh lima pluh (550).<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoBodyText\">ix. Prasasti  Pagaruyung (Minangkabau), jangkaan bertarikh 1316-1347M : ampat (4).<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">x. Batu Bersurat  Terengganu, bertarikh 702H\/1303M : asa (1), dua\/tua (2), lima (5), tujuh (7), sepuluh tengah tiga (12 \u00bd), tengah tiga (25), seratus (100) dan tujuh ratus dua (702).<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">xi. Prasasti Minyak  Tujuh (Aceh ), bertarikh 781H\/1380M : tujuh ratus asta puluh sawarsa (781).<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">xii. Kamus <em>Zhan Cheng Yi Yu, <\/em>jangkaan 1365-1543M : sa (1), zuo (2), ba\/pak (3), li ma (5), nan\/nam (6), di zhu (7), da la ban (8), sa la ban (9), sa bu lu (10), sala duo (100) dan sa la piao (1000).<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">xiii. Kamus <em>Man La Jiu Guo Yi Yu<\/em> (Cina), jangkaan bertarikh 1403-1511M : sa du (1), du wa (2), di jia (3), en ba (4), li ma (5), eu nan (6), du zhu (7), du la pan (8), xin bi lan (9), xi bu lu (10), sha la du si (100), xi li bu (1000) dan xi la sha (10, 000).<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">xiv. Kamus Antonio Pigafetta bertarikh 1519-1522M. : vzza (1), dua (2), tolo (3), vpat (4), lima (5), onom (6), pitto (7), gualu (8), ciam (9) dan polo (10). Kamus ini lebih awal dari dua kamus Tiongkok itu. Saya berandaian bahawa wujudnya beberapa lagi kamus kuno seumpama Kamus Oe Tadafusa itu. Kami sedang mencarinya sekarang ini. Saya sebenarnya telah membandingkan kata pembilangan Austronesia ini dengan kata pembilangan Austroasia, tetapi tidak langsung mendapat apa-apa maklumat saling pinjaman. Keduanya agak asing. Juga yang tidak dibahas oleh Prof. Collins adalah asal kata \u201ckosong\u201d. Perkataan Sanskrit untuk menggambarkan angka \u201c0\u201d adalah \u201csunya\u201d, yang tinggalan Melayunya \u201csunyi\u201d, manakala Arab menggelarnya \u201csifar\u201d. Umum memaklumi bahawa \u201czero\u201d adalah ambilan daripada \u201csifar\u201d, tetapi tidak pula diketahui adakah \u201csifar\u201d merupakan ambilan daripada \u201csunya\u201d. Setakat ini, kami berandaian bahawa \u201ckosong\u201d datangnya daripada perkataan Khmer Kuno \u201cson\u201d. Adakah \u201cson\u201d perkataan Funan? Juga, yang tidak beliau bahas, adalah berkenaan penggunaan sistem metrik atau sistem persepuluhan bagi menulis angka-angka Melayu, contoh tertua adalah \u201csaribu (1000), duaratus (200), sariwu tluratus sapulu dua (1312), dualaksa (20, 000), sapuluh dua (12), dua laksa (20,000), sapluh (10), tluv pluh (30), tluv pluh tijuh (37), nam pluh (60), tijuh pluh tluv (73), sa rtuh ban pluh dva (162) dan tluv rtuh sa pluh (310)\u201d. Apakah bangsa Melayu yang pertama didunia menulis sistem metrik? India mungkin lebih awal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" align=\"right\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong><span lang=\"IT\">6. Perkembangan Tulisan di Alam Melayu<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"IT\">Dalam Bab 3 : Tulisan, Prof. Collins berbahas bekenaan prasasti Sanskrit di Alam Melayu, prasasti Melayu-Pallawa di Sriwijaya, tulisan Melayu-Pallawa, tulisan Kawi, tulisan Rencong dan lain-lain versi tulisan Pallawa seperti Lampong, Batak, Bugis dan Makasar. Saya tidak mahu menambah apa-apa sebab saya bukanlah mahir dalam tulisan Pallawa, malah tidak mahir juga dalam bahasa Melayu kuno. Namun begitu, adalah sedikit-sedikit saya mengumpulkan prasasti-prasasti Melayu kuno bertulisan Pallawa guna untuk mendapatkan maklumat Sains dan Teknologi di dalamnya. Contohnya adalah maklumat berkenaan angka di atas. Prof. Collins juga menghujahkan bahawa penggunaan tulisan Pallawa ini masihlah berlangsung tatkala bangsa Melayu telah memeluk agama Islam, malah sehingga kurun ke-20 pun. Saya tidak mampu mengulas maklumat ini. Begitupun, saya cumalah mahu menambah tentang masukkan berkenaan perkara berikut.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"IT\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong><span lang=\"IT\">7. Manuskrip Melayu Tertua<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"IT\">Memanglah tidak boleh dipertahankan hujah yang mengatakan bahawa kitab <em>Aqaid al-Nasafi<\/em> yang diterjemahkan di Alam Melayu pada tahun 1590M adalah manuskrip Melayu tertua. Kecualilah makna Melayu itu dikecilkan skopnya hanya kepada Melayu-Islam. Takkanlah manuskrip tertua di Alam Melayu dikarang tatkala Melaka sudah dijajah. Maklumat yang dipetik oleh Prof. Collins terhadap tulisan Kozok (2004) berkenaan manuskrip <em>Undang-Undang Sarasamucchaya<\/em> (jangkaan ditulis pada 1304-1436M berdasarkan ujian makmal terhadap kertas daluangnya) amatlah bermakna. Kami memanglah berminat mengetahui dengan lebih banyak kewujudan manuskrip-manuskrip Melayu kuno ini, mungkin dalam bentuk aslinya sebelum diterjemahkan di Tiongkok.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"IT\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong><span lang=\"IT\">8. Masuknya Perkataan Sanskrit kedalam Leksikon Melayu<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"IT\">Bab 4 : Leksikon, membicarakan berkenaan isu pengambilan perkataan-perkataan Sanskrit ke dalam bahasa Melayu. Maklumat-maklumat daripada prasasti dan manuskrip memanglah menunjukkan positifnya hal ini, malah manuskrip-manuskrip Melayu-Islam sekalipun. <\/span>Batu Bersurat Terengganu yang popular itupun mengandungi 29 perkataan Sanskrit. Untuk makluman, Allah digelar sebagai Dewata Mulia Raya. Namun, apa yang belum dilakukan oleh sarjana-sarjana utama dalam bidang ini adalah mengumpulkan selengkapnya kata masukkan Sanskrit ke dalam bahasa Melayu, lalu menunjukkan apakah perkataan Melayu yang asli.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><strong><span lang=\"IT\">9. Gesaan Untuk Sarjana Malaysia dan Indonesia <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"IT\">Saya menyambut dengan baik gesaan Prof. Collins agarnya sarjana-sarjana pengajian Melayu di Malaysia dan Indonesia melakukan penyelidikan yang lebih teliti berkenaan isu Bahasa Sanskrit dan Bahasa Melayu, juga Bahasa Arab dan Bahasa Melayu.
